Never Buy Salad Dressing Again!

Here’s Harold the Turkey, our Thanksgiving mascot.

Over Thanksgiving I was put in charge of handling “leftover day” and appeasing 25 different people. We had quite the hodge podge of a leftover feast after it was all said and done. We ended up with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, turkey soup, and a nice salad.

After more than a year of a paleo lifestyle, you’ll never catch me buying salad dressing from the store. It’s way more delicious (and super simple) to just make it yourself. At the request of a number of family members, I give you two of my favorite salad dressing recipes.

Balsamic Vinagriette
Prep time: less than 5 min.Servings vary

What you need:

  • 2/3 c. olive oil
  • 1/3 c. balsamic vinegar (add a little more if you like it tangy)
  • 2 T. honey (more or less depending on your taste)
  • 1 t. minced garlic
  • 1 t. garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

  1. Combine ingredients.
  2. Whisk.
  3. Done. Easy, right? You can use an old salad dressing bottle or a mason jar to store this in the fridge. Just give it a shake when you need some dressing.

Avocado Ranch Dressing
Prep time: 5 min.
Servings vary

What you need:

  • 1/2 c. homemade mayo
  • 1/2 c. coconut milk (buttermilk/regular milk/almond milk/whatever your taste but the flavor of the dressing will change based on the liquid you pick)
  • 1/2 t. onion powder
  • 1/2 t. parsley
  • 1/2 t. chives
  • 1 t. garlic powder
  • 1 t. dill
  • 1 very, very ripe avocado
  • salt and pepper to taste

  1. Make some mayo.
  2. Combine everything in a blender and blend well. The squishier the avocado is, the creamier the dressing will turn out.
  3. Done.
