DIY Baby Shower Gifts | Thrifty Tip

Everyone I know is turning up with a new bundle of joy. As much as I enjoy smothering all the new, tiny humans with love, it can be an expensive venture when you are invited to baby shower after baby shower.

Recently I have turned to my rudimentary sewing and crafting skills to come up with some great do-it-yourself projects that make wonderful (and useful) baby shower gifts. Particularly if you’re adept to using coupons, you can save big when you make some common baby shower gifts at home. Continue reading

I’m pretty sure when my parents decided that I wasn’t allowed to be an only child anymore, they purposely made a kid that complemented me well. (We sure didn’t think so until we had gotten through those rough teen years.) Laura has got hilarious wit for days and I have a keen eye for graphic design. Together, we have launched our first Etsy shop, SwaterColors. When our powers combine, we hope to bring unique, hilarious greeting cards and handmade items to the masses!

For our first trick, we give you the greatest birthday card ever made. Does your dad have a great sense of humor? Do you think your dad is ‘the shit’? Well if so, this card is definitely for you!

For Father’s Day, we took my dad to Boulevardia, a beer festival in KC. As we were walking through one of the vendor areas, we saw a guy with a booth with some Father’s Day cards and one of them said, “#2 Dad. Still pretty good.” My dad thought that was hilarious, and as my sister and I were walking by we decided that it would be more hilarious if it said, “He’s the shit!” The moral of this story is we find poop jokes hilarious and we find puns hilarious. Put the two together? Magic.

Seriously. Go buy your dad a card. Because hilarious.

Save The Date!

One of the things I have always been proud of is the fact that I have an arsenal of skills; some that are completely useless and some that can come in handy. I love using my skills to help my friends out (particularly when bartered for other things, like booze). A few months ago, my friends, Chelsea and Ariel, asked me to take some photos for them for their “save the dates” for their wedding. I was more than happy to oblige (although, I have to add, I’m no professional photographer). Following their photoshoot, I also designed the “save the date” post cards. Continue reading

Easter Project: Bath Fizzies

Easter Project: Bath Fizzies

Since I am trying not to eat all the sugar-filled candies that go along with all things Easter, I decided to make something fun that has a much lower sugar content. These little bath fizzies worked so well (once I got them figured out) and would be an awesome little gift for just about every holiday. Plus, they were crazy cheap to make too and who doesn’t love that! Continue reading
